500 Main St., Kipling, Sk. |
|
Kipling is a town in southeast Saskatchewan, Canada. In provincial politics, Kipling is in the constituency of Moosomin. According to the Kipling and District history book 1882-1998 "Pioneers and Progress" Kipling, located in southeast Saskatchewan, was named for the great English author, Rudyard Kipling who passed through Saskatchewan and Regina on October 4th, 1907, on the C.No. Railway (now CNR). The hamlet of Kipling started to receive regular train service on October 12th, 1908, and was declared a village on September 13, 1909.
The village was incorporated into a Town on January 1, 1954, and today is a thriving community of 1,100 residents.
Kipling lies close to the Moose Mountain Provincial Park and is situated within the Rural Municipality of Kingsley No. 124 which borders the Rural Municipality of Hazelwood No. 94, 7 kilometers to the south of Kipling. We are 1.5 hours from the major centers of Estevan, Weyburn, Regina and Yorkton, literally in the middle of everywhere!!
Driving by we may appear to be just another small town in Saskatchewan. However, if you take the time to tour around you will see that we have many of the amenities that you would find in a larger center, but with the small-town advantage!
Our community offers our residents a quiet lifestyle with excellent job opportunities, suitable housing, health care, education and year-round recreational fun & relaxation in wide open spaces while enjoying the fresh air. Kipling provides a large variety of trades and services to the region.
During the summer months our residents enjoy watching ball games, going for a dip in the pool that is located next to our campgrounds, soaking in the hot tub after a workout at our local gym or an afternoon of golf at our nine-hole grass green course. In the winter you can cheer on a local hockey team, watch or join in a curling game, or contemplate which of our figure skaters will become the next Rudy Swingers.
Our visitors can have their picture taken in front of the Guinness World Records, "World's Largest Paperclip" located in our beautiful Bell Park or take in the mural by Janet Blackstock located on the side of Balfour Drugs on the corner of 6th Ave and Main St. They can also visit our famous paperclip house at 503 Main Street, now a restaurant and known as The Paperclip Cottage. Afterwards, take a stroll on our Heritage Walking Tour or visit our museum grounds and take a short trip out to view the Century old fully restored Bekevar Church.
Kiipling is based on an agricultural economy of grain, livestock and mixed farms as well as an ever-increasingly strong oil exploration and service sector. The livestock industry boasts a large hog operation which is one of the world's leading companies conducting research on swine genetics. Kipling has increasingly become the center for health care and education in this region.
"Kipling shall be known for inspiring opportunity in an attractive, vibrant, active, sustainable community through innovation and growth." |
